During a wheel alignment on a vehicle with the factory suspension, a technician will adjust the angles of the wheels so they are set within the manufacturer's specifications. The goal is to maximize the lifespan of your tires while ensuring the vehicle drives straight and handles properly. For owners of lifted vehicles, a wheel alignment is of particular significance since the installation of a lift kit changes the geometry and stance of the vehicle. Because lifted vehicles have higher centers of gravity and altered suspension angles, the standard alignment specifications no longer apply and the vehicle will need specialized adjustments to account for the changes in suspension dynamics and wheel positioning.
Wheels go out of alignment from everyday wear and tear over time on the suspension components, but the most common causes are hitting something with substantial force, like a pothole, curb, or object in the road. Because misalignment can happen gradually, it's easy to overlook or not realize your vehicle is out of alignment. However, even slight misalignment can hasten tire wear and negatively affect handling.
At Turn 1 Auto Care, we know how to keep your vehicle rolling at its best. If you suspect you have a vehicle that is out of alignment or you need a lift kit install and alignment, contact us! Outside of suspension modifications and experiencing issues that indicate your vehicle isn't in alignment (uneven or irregular tire wear; the vehicle pulling to one side; or the steering wheel being off-center), it's recommended that you have an alignment inspection performed before you install new tires, so you give your tires the best opportunity to provide the longest lasting service life.
